An Access to Information (ATI) orientation for the Malawi National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU) is currently underway in Mponela, Dowa. The three-day training, facilitated by the Malawi Human Rights Commission, is in compliance with the ATI Act and aims to familiarize MNCU staff with the provisions of the Act and related processes.
In his remarks, Acting Deputy Executive Secretary of the MNCU, David Mulera, described the Commission’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability through the use of ATI. He added that MNCU, through its Communication and Information program, champions freedom of expression and access to information, among other responsibilities.
The ATI Act, enacted in 2017, provides for the right of access to information held by public and relevant private institutions, outlines the processes and procedures for obtaining that information, and addresses related matters.
