Malawi National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU) is a statutory body of the Malawi Government that works in UNESCO’s five fields of competence namely education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture and communication & information. As public entity, MNCU is obliged to uphold and adhere to the provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi and other relevant legislations including the Access to Information Act (ATIA) of 2017.

ATIA grants citizens the right to access information held by public bodies, as well as relevant private entities. The Act outlines clear processes and procedures for obtaining such information, underscoring the significance of openness and accessibility in governance.

In compliance with ATIA, MNCU has developed this information manual which will serve as a comprehensive inventory of information held by MNCU. By implementing this manual, MNCU aims to ensure consistency and transparency in the provision of information under its custody thereby, fostering greater trust and engagement with the public. MNCU champions freedom of expression, access to information, principles of transparency and accountability to the public through both proactive disclosure and attendance to request for information from members of the public and stakeholders.
